Roy Bean - and this is the amazing thing about the story - is an actual historical figure. A saloon owner turned self-appointed judge, he called himself «the law west of the Rio Pecos» and meted out justice in his bar-courthouse. For a guy with no law degree or even any real law enforcement role at all, Bean interpreted the law in some pretty original ways- all while actually keeping the peace in West Texas. He never had to imprison, shoot, or sentence to death anyone - it must have something to do with barkeep's authority mixed with some wicked personal charisma. For all this, we dedicate one of our most beautiful checkered Western shirts to him - and we can all drink to that!
